The push from the teams to the powers that be is to allow 2 doors coupes so the Mustang and Camaro can compete.

Nissan used to be huge in this, I think.

But, there will be no Australian brands.

sort of but not really.
The Skylines dominated the Group A touring car era between 89 and 92, afterwards it's switched to Super Touring regulations, it wasn't V8 Supercars until 1999, which was limited to Holden/Ford until last year.

I'm more sad about the workers than V8 Supercars, it's only existed as a series since 1999. Bathurst will continue, if V8 Supercars dies then a new series will form. Hopefully more BTCC than DTM.

They're still there, with Mercedes now.
I like the Mercs, but it's not the same without Ford vs. Holden.

As am I, they're getting the shaft.
As for the series I foresee it merging with DTM and Super GT.

Audi will join and dominate as usual.

pah, it's only been that was since the mid 90's. The racing was better when there was more variety in the cars.
wanna race a fwd Corolla at Barthurst against Skyline GT-R's? sure, just don't crash it (it crashed..into the Skyline)
even further back the major touring car series was mostly Mini's and Cortina's, there was even a great crossover period in the mid-late 60's where the Mini's and Falcon V8's shared the track, the V8's had legs on the straights but couldn't hold a candle to the cornering speed of the Mini Coopers.
